The project “Sociologie de la circulation des savoirs: une prosopographie exploratoire basée sur les systèmes d’information CRIS de l’Espace universitaire francophone (PRISA 2021)” is part of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). Its objective is to consolidate a research network on the circulation of scientific knowledge based on the convergence between bibliometric studies and prosopographical studies of the publications of researchers from Canada, Brazil and Argentina. Unlike traditional studies based solely on traditional databases, such as Scopus or Web of Science, this project aims to mobilize new sources, such as curricular information systems or CRIS systems in each country and large aggregators such as Lens, Google Scholar, Dimensions. The importance of exploring new sources lies in knowing more fully the characteristics of researchers and their publications in all languages, overcoming the limitations pointed out by the available literature that verify the mercantile, linguistic and disciplinary biases of those databases.
The dataset from the “Bibliometric and Prosopographic Database of Researchers from CONICET (Argentina) and Productivity Grant Holders from CNPq (Brazil)” (August 2025) has been made available.
The dataset was produced within the framework of the international project of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), through collaboration between teams from Brazil and Argentina.
This database offers an unprecedented and comprehensive survey of the scientific output and career trajectories of researchers from CONICET (Argentina) and recipients of the CNPq productivity grants (Brazil), based on the analysis of articles published between 2013 and 2020. Developed from a “bottom-up” perspective, it is based on the identification of over 25,000 active scientists from both institutions, whose career paths were reconstructed using sources such as CONICET Digital and CV Lattes, and then enriched with bibliometric data from Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The information, anonymized to protect privacy, enables situated analyses based on variables such as gender, age, geographic location, or disciplinary area, and allows for critical comparisons between different modes of knowledge circulation and visibility in Latin America.
The dataset was produced by Luciano Antonio Digiampietri (University of São Paulo, Brazil); Osvaldo Gallardo (CONICET and National University of Cuyo, Argentina); Denis Baranger (National University of Misiones, Argentina); and Fernanda Beigel (CONICET and National University of Cuyo, Argentina). The team also received support from Gabriel Vélez Cuartas (COLAV, University of Antioquia, Colombia) for data processing.
The dataset originated from the project “Sociology of the Circulation of Knowledge: An Exploratory Prosopography Based on CRIS Information Systems in the Francophone Academic Space.” This project was directed by Fernanda Beigel and Yves Gingras (as part of an agreement between the National University of Cuyo and the Université du Québec à Montréal), and was funded by the PRISA program of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF – PRISA 2021, DRA-8375 – PRIMA 1774).
The dataset can be accessed here.
