With the participation of renowned specialists, the virtual meeting called “Towards a Transformation of SSH Research Assessment in Latin America and the Caribbean” took place last October 28th. In this event FOLEC-CLACSO documents were formally presented in English language.
The Latin American Forum on Scientific Evaluation (FOLEC), created in November 2019, had its most significant antecedent in Mexico City when the first Latin American Forum on Scientific Evaluation (FOLEC), was held between CLACSO and the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT). Experts from the region, representatives of Science and Technology Organizations (STOs) and CLACSO member centers participated in this event analyzing different dimensions regarding science assessment policies. Moreover, they made proposals for the Latin American region in relation with international trends and good practices.
In this regard, we participated last October 28th at the presentation of these documents for the English-speaking academic community in the context of the virtual meeting called “Towards a Transformation of SSH Research Assessment in Latin America and the Caribbean”. The opening of the event was in charge of Gabriela Ramos (UNESCO), Heide Hackmann (ISC) and Karina Batthyany (CLACSO). In addition, renowned scientists participated, such as Pablo Vommaro (CLACSO), Laura Rovelli (FOLEC-CLACSO), Leslie Chan (OCSD Network), Emanuel Kulczycki (ENRESSH), Seteney Shami (ACSS), Bhushan Patwardhan (ICSSR), Cecilia Sleiman (MINCyT-Argentina), Ismael Ráfols (CWTS – University of Leiden), Jean Claude Guedón (University of Montreal), as well as Fernanda Beigel (CECIC Director, President of UNESCO Open Science Committee and Senior Researcher of CONICET). The first public presentation of these documents for the Latin American region was in in the context of the virtual meeting called “Regional Debates on Science Assessment”, held on July 28, 2020. In that opportunity, the opening words were in charge of Karina Batthyány (CLACSO’s executive director), Mario Pecheny (CONICET’s vice-president) and Pablo Vommaro (CLACSO’s research director). The presentation of forum’s basic proposals was in charge of Fernanda Beigel, author of the founding documents. In addition, a group of renowned scientists from the Ibero-American region participated in the session moderated by Dominique Babini and Laura Rovelli. Elea Giménez Toledo, Rosalba Casas, Verónika Sieglin, Cecilia Rikap, Gerardo Caetano, Gabriel Vélez Cuartas and Hebe Vessuri, who made the closing presentation, were also part of the meeting.
