“A bibliometric analysis of the research performance of Nelson Mandela University” is led by François van Schalkwyk (Stellenbosch University, South Africa), and CECIC participates in the project through Osvaldo Gallardo and Fernanda Beigel. It is funded by Nelson Mandela University (NMU), and the implementing unit is African Minds, which was commissioned by the Director of Research Support and Management at NMU to carry out a bibliometric analysis of the university’s research performance using OpenAlex data.
The scope of the analyses includes:
- The research publication performance of NMU for the years 2005 to 2022.
- A comparison of NMU’s research performance with that of other public universities in South Africa, using various normalized indicators.
- A disaggregated analysis of publication output by NMU faculty.
- Trends in graduate production.
- Trends in income generated from and for research.
